Bringing Lydia Bennet to Life in Pride and Prejudice at Compass Rose Theater
Adapted by Emma Whipday and directed by Madeline Austin, this production offered a fresh take on Austen’s timeless story of love, social expectations, family, and the misunderstandings that can shape our relationships. Set within the world of the Bennet family, the play follows five sisters navigating the pressures of marriage and society while discovering their own paths.
The production was also recognized by DC Theater Arts. In her November 17, 2025 review, Julia Tucker praised the production as a “theatrical masterpiece,” highlighting the cast’s performances and the camaraderie among the Bennet sisters. https://dctheaterarts.org/2025/11/17/pride-and-prejudice-is-a-theatrical-masterpiece-at-compass-rose-theater/
As Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister, I stepped into a character whose spirited personality and impulsive nature bring a distinct energy to the story. It was also a great opportunity to spend time with family. I was able to stay in my childhood home just outside DC during this production.
